ExpressCarCab Privacy Policy

ExpressCarCab ("ExpressCarCab", "we", "us", "our") is a ridesharing and carpooling platform operated by ExpressCarCab, a Delaware C-Corp ("Company"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when you use our services (the "Service").
1. Information We Collect
A) Information you provide
- Account information: name, username, email, phone number, profile photo.
- Ride details: pickup/dropoff locations, dates, times, trip preferences, notes.
- Driver verification (if applicable): driver's license, vehicle information, insurance details, and other documents required for verification and safety.
- Messages: content you send through in-app chat and associated metadata.
- Customer support: information you share when contacting support.
B) Information collected automatically
- Location data: approximate or precise location (depending on permissions) to enable trip logistics, safety, and tracking.
- Device and usage data: IP address, device identifiers, OS version, app version, crash logs, and basic analytics.
- Log information: timestamps, pages/screens visited, and actions taken in the Service.
C) Payments
Payments are processed by third-party payment processors (e.g., Stripe). We do not store full payment card numbers. We may receive payment-related tokens and limited details (e.g., payment status, last 4 digits, card brand) from the processor.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Provide and operate the Service (accounts, matching, ride postings, messaging).
- Identity verification and safety (including fraud prevention and compliance).
- Enable payments, refunds, and dispute handling.
- Location-based features (when enabled), including tracking and service quality.
- Customer support and communication (service updates, security alerts).
- Improve the Service (debugging, analytics, performance, product development).
- Enforce our Terms of Service and protect our users and the Company.
3. How We Share Your Information
We may share information in the following cases:
- Between users: limited profile information and ride details required to fulfill a trip (e.g., name/username, trip details, status updates, chat).
- Service providers: hosting, analytics, customer support tools, messaging, and payment processors (e.g., Stripe).
- Identity verification partners: if used to validate driver identity and prevent fraud.
- Legal and safety: if required by law, regulation, court order, or to protect rights, safety, and prevent fraud.
- Business transfers: in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets.
4. Location Information
If you grant location permission, we may collect and use location data to enable features such as trip logistics, tracking, safety, and service improvements. You can disable location permissions in your device settings, but some features may not work correctly.
5. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as necessary to provide the Service and for legitimate business purposes (including compliance, dispute resolution, and enforcement). We may retain certain records even after account deletion where required or permitted by law.
6. Account Creation, Verification, and Deletion
ExpressCarCab supports account creation for two roles: Rider and Driver. We may verify certain information depending on your role and the market where you use the Service.
- Phone and email verification: we may verify your phone number and email.
- Legal name: we may request your legal name for safety purposes.
- Driver verification: we may request government IDs or driver's license information to verify identity and prevent fraud.
The Service provides an in-app option for users to permanently delete their account. Account deletion is irreversible. We may delay deletion requests where needed to protect users and complete transactions safely, including when there are active trips, open disputes/claims, or an outstanding balance.
7. Your Choices and Rights
- Access and update: you can update certain account information in the app.
- Delete your account: you can permanently delete your account in the app.
- Location permissions: manage via your device settings.
8. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect information. However, no system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Children's Privacy
The Service is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10. International Users
If you use the Service from outside the United States, your information may be processed and stored in the United States or other locations where our service providers operate.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the "Effective date" and may provide additional notice in the app or on our website.
